Girls’ Generation is a 9 member pop group from South Korea, also known as SNSD or So Nyeo Shi Dae formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. Comprised of 윤아 (Yoona), 티파니 (Tiffany), 유리 (Yuri), 효연 (Hyoyeon), 수영 (Sooyoung), 서현 (Seohyun), 태연 (Taeyeon), 제시카 (Jessica) and 써니 (Sunny), Girls’ Generation is a multi-lingual group with members that speak English, Chinese, Japanese, and of course Korean.

For several months k-pop fans speculated about a new pop group from SM Entertainment mostly of a female counterpart to the hugely popular boy band Super Junior. For 2 years SM scoured the region and the US as well for these girls, they went through training and finally in 2007 Girls’ Generation performed their first single “Into The New World” on Ingikayo and in late 2007 they dropped their self titled debut album.

The popularity of Girls’ Generation was also boosted by appearing in reality type shows that documented their journey to their debut called “Girls Go To School” and another one where they worked as fashion magazine interns called “Factory Girl” which cleverly aired during the time of their absence from the music scene.

In 2009 they released “Gee” which became record holder for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.net for 8 weeks, surpassing the previous record of 6 weeks set by the Wonder Girls‘ “Nobody“. They also set a record on KBS’s Music Bank by being #1 for 9 consecutive weeks. After a short break Girls’ Generation came out with “Genie” which also was a huge hit all over Asia even hitting the MYX U.S. chart show That’s My Jam for several weeks. Along with the hit singles, endorsements and reality shows the group announced their first solo tour all over Asia and FYI, the Korean dates sold out in 3 minutes!

So what’s next for Girls’ Generation? Well, it’s their time so we might as well sit back and enjoy the show!
